A Jig Maker / Toolmaker / Patternmaker is required for a large engineering company based in the heart of the Black Country, commutable from areas such as Aston, Neachells, Dudley, Smethwick, Coventry, Halesowen, Wolverhampton, Oldbury, West Bromwich, Walsall, Solihull and Hockley.
The company are a leading manufacturer of precision parts supplied to a range of industries including agricultural, automotive and domestic use.
The purpose of the role is to use an assortment of machines to build devices used for production, welding, and general operations and support production in all areas .
Main responsibilities include -
*Create the jigs from the original plans, the fixtures and devices designed by and with the occasional assistance of the development and design engineering team *Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes *To create plans, and monitor the process of the jigs and fixtures and offer ideas for alterations and improvements *Monitor the progress of the jig or the fixture's gauging, locating, and innovative ability. *To use various instruments, switches, hydraulic clamps, gauges, and more. *Reduce waste, and produce perfect fitting parts, cutting out too much expensive hand work, mistakes and waste. *Building jigs and fixtures to reduces waste, and produce perfect fitting parts, cutting out hand work, mistakes and waste. *Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications. *Offers support and assistance to production throughout the shop floor and ensuring that quality is maintained. *Maintains tool room, check validation of tool area, ensures maintenance requirements are performed according to their frequency and plant meets all health and safety requirements. *Create and maintain any necessary records to ensure the requirements are meeting business needs *Recommend changes to existing jigs and fixtures to improve specification to performance *Provide expert advice and assistance on technical problems relating to the modification of products and equipment. *Maintain production tooling and effect repairs in line with the demands of production requirements
Applicants MUST have a solid engineering background, preferably apprentice trained within a toolroom or similar environment. Must have skills with operating all conventional machinery, CNC experience is desired but not essential. Must be able to interpret engineering diagrams, designs and ideas effectively into required jigs and fixtures.
Must have effective communication skills to liaise with various departments of production, assist with outlaying training to machine setters, and generally support the business with any other adhoc duties.
Position is a permanent role pay £23K per annum
Working hours are 39 per week, 7am - 4pm Monday to Thursday, 7am - 12:30pm on Friday
