JOB TITLE: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
ROLE SUMMARY:
The design engineers are individually responsible for projects through the full life cycle of a product, from initial conception to full production. The role involves full liaison with industrial designers, toolmakers and sub-contractors, on and off-site and with all levels of staff in a large, modern manufacturing facilities.
The design team, currently comprising four permanent designers led by the Design and Development Director, use advanced design and development software packages (Pro-E Wildfire 4) and have state of the art prototyping facilities including a rapid prototyping machine. Within the department there is also a Design Project Manager, Design Support Engineer, plus designated Toolroom and CAD support.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have extensive experience in the design of precision mechanical products, mechanisms and assemblies incorporating plastic mouldings, die castings and machined components. Suitable previous experience may include design of consumer type products such as mobile phones and similar telecoms equipment, printers, fax machines, copiers. Generally these are products of a similar scale and intricacy to own, using similar materials, but experience of machining, tolerancing and mechanical assemblies and mechanisms is also ideally required.
Extensive experience of 3D CAD systems is essential and with particular emphasis on Pro/Engineer Wildfire (4). A strong mechanical engineering background is required and the candidate must have a minimum qualification of HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or equivalent.
DESIRABLE CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
Candidates need to be dynamic, hands-on designers, able to work with minimum supervision and capable of dealing with more than one project at a time. Individuals with a keen interest and a high degree of self-motivation will thrive as part of the team in the informal working environment.
PACKAGE
IRO £40,000 – £45,000 basic annual salary depending on relevant experience and background.
Additional production bonus (payable monthly in arrears and averaging 6% of basic salary this current financial year) linked to the value of goods invoiced from the UK factory base
Non Contributory Medical Insurance (offered after satisfactory 6 month appraisal).
Non Contributory Life Insurance (Death in Service, equivalent to 2 years’ basic salary - offered after satisfactory 6 month appraisal)
22 days holiday per annum, rising to 24 after two full calendar years, plus Bank Holidays.
Normal working week 40 hours, 8.00am – 4.30 pm Monday to Friday, with 30 minutes lunch
Overtime, at a rate of 1 1/3, will be paid for all time worked in excess of normal working hours when authorized by the Design Team Manager

The maintenance of the Quickbooks accounting records for the London Office with other associated activities
The preparation of monthly financial reports for subsequent consolidation
Reconciliation of balance sheet accounts in particular the sub ledger control and bank accounts
The maintenance of the registers and associated accounting records for the assets, both tangible and intangible owned by the Company
The control and expedition of intercompany transactions within the group companies
Principal point of escalation for the activities of the department and the direct reports
Manage relationship with Banks used by UK
Provide input to the Balance Sheet and Planning activities
Control and support of the VAT activities within the business
Control and review of the Budget / RF forecasting process
Undertake review of monthly reporting
Facilitate the Statutory Audits
Undertake reviews of current processes, identify improvements and facilitate the required change
Maintain links with the user departments - Sales, Production, Editorial and identify where the Financial Accounting processes need to react to the changing business needs
Ensure resolution of business, supplier and author queries in line with agreed service levels

The design team, currently comprising four permanent designers led by the Design and Development Director, use advanced design and development software packages (Pro-E Wildfire 4) and have state of the art prototyping facilities including a rapid prototyping machine. Within the department there is also a Design Project Manager, Design Support Engineer, plus designated Toolroom and CAD support.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
Candidates should have extensive experience in the design of precision mechanical products, mechanisms and assemblies incorporating plastic mouldings, die castings and machined components. Suitable previous experience may include design of consumer type products such as mobile phones and similar telecoms equipment, printers, fax machines, copiers. Generally these are products of a similar scale and intricacy to own, using similar materials, but experience of machining, tolerancing and mechanical assemblies and mechanisms is also ideally required.
Extensive experience of 3D CAD systems is essential and with particular emphasis on Pro/Engineer Wildfire (4). A strong mechanical engineering background is required and the candidate must have a minimum qualification of HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design or equivalent.
DESIRABLE CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
Candidates need to be dynamic, hands-on designers, able to work with minimum supervision and capable of dealing with more than one project at a time. Individuals with a keen interest and a high degree of self-motivation will thrive as part of the team in the informal working environment.
PACKAGE
IRO £40,000 – £45,000 basic annual salary depending on relevant experience and background.
Additional production bonus (payable monthly in arrears and averaging 6% of basic salary this current financial year) linked to the value of goods invoiced from the UK factory base
Non Contributory Medical Insurance (offered after satisfactory 6 month appraisal).
Non Contributory Life Insurance (Death in Service, equivalent to 2 years’ basic salary - offered after satisfactory 6 month appraisal)
22 days holiday per annum, rising to 24 after two full calendar years, plus Bank Holidays.
Normal working week 40 hours, 8.00am – 4.30 pm Monday to Friday, with 30 minutes lunch
Overtime, at a rate of 1 1/3, will be paid for all time worked in excess of normal working hours when authorized by the Design Team Manager
