A Works Chemist is required for a busy organisation based in Uxbridge. The successful candidate will take responsibility for ensuring all work processed on the plant meets BSI and industry standards and for the technical input to the management team. An element of this will include product development.
Key responsibilities:
· Chemical analysis of process tanks using wet chemistry techniques, according to written procedures. · Maintaining required levels of chemicals in process tanks, based on analysis results. · Carrying out routine physical and chemical testing on finished products, according to written procedures. · Checking finished work to ensure its quality. · Recording plant conditions on a daily basis, and liaising with plant operators to ensure the smooth running of the process · Recording and analysing data on reprocessed work, with the aim of reducing the amount of work needing reprocessing · Troubleshooting quality-related problems as they occur. · Investigating QC failures, and writing reports where necessary. · Responding to technical enquiries from customers. · Overseeing chemical stocks, and ordering all process chemicals. · Calibrating equipment used on the plant and in the lab, and keeping calibration records updated. · Overseeing the processing of samples and colour limits, both for use on site and for sending to customers.. · Attending daily and monthly management meetings, and participating in the day-to-day running of the plant. · Taking part in BSI and industry audits.

Responsible for:

·Responsible for the day-to-day running of the maintenance department, advising the General Manager of any training requirements. ·Maintaining a comprehensive spares inventory for all vital plant and equipment. ·Ordering of all consumables relating to the maintenance function including oils, greases & lubricants. ·Purchasing to follow the procedures laid down in the Maintenance Purchasing File. ·Be familiar with and responsible for Health & Safety and Environmental issues relating to the maintenance department and all plant & equipment, ensuring all maintenance risk assessments are up-to-date. ·Note: the site is registered with and subject to regular inspections by the Environment Agency under the IPPC Regulations. ·Responsible for the co-ordination and control of Contractors working on-site. ·Ensuring there is cover for call-out / breakdown outside normal hours of work, including weekend cover when the plant is working (requirement for boiler start-up during the winter months).
