Agency/Employer Altmore IT Recruitment
DescriptionRegister your CV Java & Oracle Application Developers - Armagh - on your doorstep?
Salary £Excellent + Package

I am leading an urgent search for arguably the best Northern Ireland technology related business success story in history. This indigenous enterprise now operates globally in a cutting edge, highly competitive industry. Margins are slim so their processes and procedures are focused on quality output. At senior or junior engineering level, a role here will boost your IT career given the strength of the brand in the market and the significant intricacy of their development projects. They are still growing as others are tightening their belts, and several opportunities now exist at different levels for developers from a Java / Oracle background. Plus they are opening a new HQ in the US - a $100m expansion.

To succeed in the role I'm looking for significant software development experience with Java design and development, experience in Oracle / PL/SQL and the full Software Development Lifecycle. Experience with JSF, Oracle JDeveloper including ADF, Oracle Application Server, and Weblogic Server is good to have but not essential.

Developers will be working with an experienced analyst, working through and coding up specs, and importantly being trained. My client provide best-in-class training - they get audited regularly by their customers so their technical staff have to truly have the skills required. All hires will be trained if needed, be it complex or simple - this is for technical and domain knowledge. They are moving up to Oracle 11g shortly and they have budgeted a lot of training to take place. They upgraded to 10g three years ago and then had Oracle onsite to do a months work of consulting training. So they aren’t shy when it comes to training.

The development unit are starting to adopt a Scrum approach - a few projects have been successful using agile so if you have this experience you would be at an advantage. My client have dozens of different systems they develop using latest Java technologies , and release every couple of months. They want to get the sprints down to 2 weeks, circa 30 days at the moment so this represents a chance to be part of a new development environment. For an initial discussion in confidence, please email stuart dot millar at altmore dot co dot uk or send your CV via this site. Please connect with me on LinkedIn, and check out my Twitter feed at twitter dot com slash altmorestuart so you can find out first what is happening at ground zero and what new career opportunities are on the horizon in Belfast and beyond as the recovery starts to happen.

Because of our knowledge of and experience in the N.I. IT skills market, and the depth and breadth of our candidate relationships, we are frequently invited to meet with potential IT and technology investors looking at setting up or expanding sites here. Frequently these companies will have skill profiles that they'd potentially like to hire for in N.I. Since these profiles are not yet "live" jobs, we are unable to advertise them. However, if we can demonstrate that the people with the skills are here, often the companies will be tempted to open a site. Those candidates who we may have introduced speculatively as part of the attraction process are usually at a distinct advantage when it comes to filling any new jobs. If you'd like to be kept aware of new developments like this, that are below the radar and not advertised, please contact us and we can arrange a meeting.

Job Title C++ Superstars - High Performance Computing / Trading Technology
Location Belfast, Antrim
Job Number 113538740

Agency/Employer Altmore IT Recruitment
DescriptionRegister your CV C++ Superstars - High Performance Computing / Trading Technology
Belfast
Salary £Excellent + Package

Over the past number of years a number of world-class firms have arrived in Belfast who operate in one of the most challenging, fast-paced and rewarding domains - electronic trading.

I am continuing to lead several searches at different levels (VP, project leads and engineers) to connect with top talent to hire for a number of outstanding opportunities in this area. Belfast is fast becoming well known for being a location of choice for blue-chip companies and I am creating a small pool of go-to people who are worth knowing that will be kept in the loop.

In the future, the knowledge generated in N. Ireland from the trading technology world will become as important to the province over the next decade as telecoms and networking have been in the previous decade.

What are we looking for? When it boils down to it, you're passionate, you're no-nonsense, you're technical. Delivery focused, but able to keep a clear head in pressurised situations.

You don't mind putting in the extra hours when needed, because you know people depend on you, and you know what is at stake. Conscientious, proud, and self-aware - you have a track record and you want to build on it for the future.

You've been living and breathing high performance computing for at least a few years, developing in C++, or leading a team of developers, or operating at a pre-sales or VP level.

Maybe even you were one of the first hires into some of the existing capital markets, banking and financial services companies in Belfast.

Or you're an OO progammer with serious skills in Java or .NET and are up for switching technology into C++.

If you're looking a serious career move with a chance to make a name for yourself around the world (and in N. Ireland) in a short space of time, we need to talk. If you're one of the major players already operating at the highest level, we still need to talk. Don't be the last to know, be the first.

You'll work on a range of powerful cloud-based software components that deliver customisable, fast, highly visual and interactive services across various entertainment devices - smartphones, tablets, PCs, TV etc. These products are sold all over the world and the award-winning newly formed Belfast office is expanding rapidly as part of a group with over £1billion in turnover.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the close knit Belfast office of a global player in an extremely challenging role. You'll be steering the ship with regard to design and development processes within the team, as well as working with the company architect for improvements and future direction. The team currently has four members and is set to grow by another half a dozen in the next six months. To succeed you'll have significant experience working for a product company with a technology stack of C++ or C or Java on Linux / Unix with robust database design and query skills. You don't need to be fully versed in each of those languages - if you are a technical enthusiast, you'll adapt.

You will be given significant responsibility over two of my client's server-side product offerings - one is CentOS based, implemented with mostly C and C++ and some Java, a PostgreSQL database, and a Struts based web app running on Tomcat. It comprises multi-device application servers, on demand delivery systems and an advanced TV platform for all types of content delivery, sophisticated payment models and cross-environment content discovery along with customisable portals that can deliver HTML5 TV applications and on-demand content. This component can also provide network management for diagnostics and system-wide performance monitoring.

The other offering is a group of Redhat/CentOS based components, implemented with Java including J2EE, JMS and Oracle. These components form a unique service provider platform for the management of complex home networks with large numbers of devices. The platform comprises two modules - a device management system and a service management system for subscriber services. Experience with network management systems, call centre software, portals & dashboards would therefore be useful, but not essential.

The device management system simplifies the installation, support and management of multiple, sophisticated devices on a home network. It is multifunctional platform supporting device auto-configuration and real-time diagnostics. Over 20 million home devices from a wide range of hardware manufacturers are currently managed by this. It enables autoconfiguration of connected home devices and services, and bulk collection of diagnostic data. With its Open Architecture, time to market is reduced, and this can be implemented as middleware using XML, SOAP or JM, or deployed as a standalone server using a web application framework and dashboard tools. It uses SSL/TLS for authentication, signed vouchers for services and WS-Security to provide end-to-end security for Web services transactions.

The service management system provides service operators with tools to manage and monitor their full range of services in both the connected home environment and the wider network. It enhances remote device management with network and service-level management with as it integrates with the device management system and 3rd party device managers, has device-agnostic APIs and provides a service diagnostic console. It is based on a modular, service-oriented architecture with firmware download scheduling, configurable dashboard views and real time alerts.

You will be depended on to grasp the functions of all of the above components, understand their interactions and dependencies, and communicate these concepts to developers. You'll also have the chance to dictate technical practice, including introducing coding standards, tools, and platforms plus review output from other developers. This is a medium sized team at the moment with plans to triple the headcount over the next 12 months, meaning this truly is a crucial role and will lead to further career progression down the line.

This will be the only role of its type this year so for an initial discussion in complete confidence please email stuart dot millar at altmore dot co dot uk or send your CV through this site. Feel free to add my IM address altmorestuart at (url removed) dot co dot uk to chat to me from your desk too as I know it can be hard to talk on the phone.
