My client is currently seeking an Accomplished Managing Quantity Surveyor to work within the Highways maintenance division of this national Civil Engineering Contractor. Based out of Either Manchester or Leeds, the works will involve street lighting, Traffic management, surfacing and highway maintenance for a number of framework agreements in the North West, Yorkshire, and the North East. Health and Safety Responsibilities which include the following: - Organise the works to maintain, so far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to health. - Give all project personnel under your control precise instructions on their responsibilities for correct safe working methods and ensure that they do not permit individuals to take unnecessary risks. - Ensure the production of precise information and instructions to other project personnel in order to promote safe working methods. - Ensure that all project personnel under your control are made aware of the safety precautions associated with their type of work through induction training, SMART briefings, tool box talks and daily workforce briefings at the start of each shift. - Ensure that personal protective clothing and safety equipment is issued, correctly used and maintained. - Promote and encourage safety awareness in the project personnel under your control. - Identify, provide and maintain safe systems of work through the use of risk assessments for all project personnel under your control. - Ensure that any change in a previously established safe system of work, or an unusual use of plant is reported to the Site Manager to review and amend the Project Health and Safety Plan. - Ensure that any damaged item of plant or equipment is taken out of use and not brought back into use until it has been properly repaired. - Notify the Site Manager of any modifications or changes to plant/transport which may affect the safety of the unit. - Ensure that all plant operators hold a valid CTA/CPCS cards and are authorised to operate that particular plant at the workplace. - Demonstrate commitment. - Stop Any Operations Considered to Be Unsafe, damaging to the environment or compromising quality. Playing an active role in risk assessment through Design, Safety and Environmental reviews. Liaising with the company environmental team and environmental authorities. Ensuring there is a minimal environmental disturbance during construction works and that Project Environmental requirements are met. Endeavouring to establish, at all levels within the Company, an understanding that compliance with the Regulation and prevention of injury and damage is an essential part of business and operational efficiency. Our client, a nationally respected and recognised Civil Engineering contractor are looking to recruit a Estimator to work within their Process Energy Pipelines department, based in London. They are looking for someone that has experience in working on either Process Energy/pipelines projects or alternatively someone with a background in the Utilities market. The role would include the following: Attend project start-up meetings and make site visits. Produce enquiry schedules for scope of works & packages required from the tender documentation, drawings and specifications issued. Identify tender deliverables required from the Project Designers. Evaluate returned quotations from suppliers and where necessary enters into correspondence with suppliers to bring quotations in line with the project specification requirements. Prepare BOQ / accurate quantity takeoffs for scopes of projects on estimating programs (such as Excel, Causeway, CCS Candy). Input to project risk register and attends a project risk meeting in the presence of Estimators, Planning Engineers, Design Co-ordinators and Clients representatives. Attend tender price settlement meetings in the presence of the Estimating Team Leader and Senior Management, Attend Tender Handover meetings in the presence of Estimating Team Leader and projects team. Prepare commercial documents for tender handover to projects team. Carry out duties / functions under JMS Quality and Health & Safety Management Systems. Assist the Estimating Team Leader in promoting interaction with the appropriate functional leader to facilitate successful development of solutions to problems and estimates. Assist the Estimating Team Leader in working with the site commercial team to ensure budgets & programs are reflective of actual delivery experience. Make tender amendments where applicable utilising client feedback on submitted tenders. As necessary provide supports and respond to tender queries made by project team personnel. In conjunction with the Senior Management review contract details relevant to the companys ability to deliver under the contract. Review tender documents assessing scope, risks involved, tender complexity and provide feedback to Estimating Team Leader. Maintain a close working relationship with senior management and other business units. Other duties as required by the Estimating Team Leader. There are currently 2 junior estimators and a Senior in the department, and the successful canddiate would need to be able to work alongside them as a team to complete tenders. They are NOT looking for a QS that has also done some Estimating.
Our client are currently recruiting for a CEM (Contractors Engineering Manager) to be based in Swindon as part of their Rail team. The successful candidate will have the responsibility for all engineering activities applicable to their specific contract including those undertaken by sub-contracted organisations. The CEM may act as the contractor's responsible engineer (CRE) for a single engineering discipline. The Role: - The CEM is accountable for all design and / or construction, as applicable to the specified works; specifically its ability to integrate with all other design, construction and existing infrastructure, and its compliance with all applicable standards, legislation, contract requirements and specifications - Where separate CRE (design) and CRE (construction) are appointed for the same discipline the CEM is accountable for defining and documenting the split responsibilities between the two interfacing CRE's. The CEM shall pay particular attention to the maangement of interfaces between design, installation and testing activities. - The CEM shall implement an IDC process or utilise an IDC process implemented by another organisation as agreed for the project for all design documentation which has an interface with other engineering disciplines. - The CEM accountability for their design remainds unchanged where the IDC process is to be implemented by another organisation. - Any design issued to Network Rail for acceptance shall be approved by the CEM confirming that such design: - has been produced by competent designers - has been subject to a design check by competent checkers - has been subject to the agreed mentorship processes subject to such arrangements being required - has been translated from the design on to any copy documents without error - has had all CRE's includes evidence that the designer has considered design risk as required by the construction regulations You must been qualified as a minimum with a HNC and have at least 5 years on site experience (preferably 10) within the rail industry.
