A new vacancy for an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a leading UK company specialising in the design & manufacture of high specification electronic lighting controls.
The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for managing projects through design, specification agreement, prototype design & build and sourcing & procurement, and will be involved in both new product development and the re-engineering of existing products. The role will also require collaboration with Electronics Engineers to ensure the electronic and mechanical development are designed in unison.
Candidates must come from an electromechanical engineering background and will have a minumum of five yrs' experience in a similar commercial engineering role. Those with specific experience working with electronic controls/systems will be of particular interest.

Scope:
Design and development of respirators and associated components
Main responsibilities:
. To generate innovative designs and product concepts
. Make and test prototypes and write test reports
. Analyse and test components to demonstrate fitness for purpose
. Produce high quality designs of products, sub-components and assemblies, which have been well considered for efficient manufacture
. To prepare drawings and apply appropriate geometrical and dimensional tolerances
. Specify and implement production equipment and define intended production processes
Requirements:
Degree in Product design or Engineering
Competent in 3D CAD, CAE and FEA (Solidworks)
Hands on model making and testing skills
Knowledge of respirator product design and testing would be advantageous

Key Responsibilities:
Taking new products from initial concept through design and development, ensuring the end product is designed for efficient and cost effective manufacture.
Producing initial design plans/specification documents
Project planning, setting and achieving project milestones and providing regular updates to management.
Carrying out regular design review meetings and maintaining documented records.
Liaising with other internal departments to ensure collaboration throughout the design and development process
Liaising with suppliers and/or other relevant technology partners to ensure the latest and most cost effective processes and materials are considered during the design/development process
Producing 3D CAD models and detail drawings using the latest version of Solidworks
Carrying out relevant design analysis, utilising analysis software such as FEA and Flow Simulation
Carrying out or overseeing functional tests on prototypes and test units and keeping documented records
Work to the company CAD Document Revision Control System, ensuring that only the latest released document revisions are accessible.
Contribute to maintaining and/or improving Design Office systems and procedures, including drawing standards.
Attending regular Design Meetings.
Providing engineering technical support to manufacturing/production department.
Prepare and modify engineering drawings for the company product range (as required) using Solid Works Office Professional.
Carry out associated tasks as and when required.
