Following the news that one of our civil engineering contracting clients has just been awarded a new Network Rail framework they are looking for a candidate who possesses the skills to manage it from a commercial perspective.
The role will be that of Senior QS and you will be responsible for:
Client liaison with Network Rail opposite numbers
Accurate forecasting and reporting, including earned value management
Procurement of materials and sub-contractors
Contract negotiation within the framework
Team management and development
Given the scope of the works it is vital that you not only have the ability to perform the tasks outlined above but also have an in-depth understanding of civil engineering in regards to major earthworks (i.e. embankment stabilisation). It is not necessary to have previous railway experience but you must be able to show significant tie spent working on civil engineering schemes for a main contractor.
Desirable to the role is an ability to build up estimates for your own jobs from first principles. There arent any specific softwares in use so this can be done using your own methods.
The role is based out of offices between Wigan and Warrington so you will ideally be located in that region. As reward you will receive a competitive basic salary, company car, pension, mobile phone, etc

We are currently assisting one of the UKs largest, privately owned, civil engineering contractors to source a Quantity Surveyor to join their team on the Cheshire / Merseyside border.
The work involves a number of security upgrades to National Grid sites across the country. To be considered for the role you should be able to demonstrate:
Previous experience of working for a civil engineering main contractor
Strong knowledge of the NEC3 Form of Contract
A good ability with Microsoft Excel
Knowledge of programmes as relates to construction activities
An understanding of CESMM3 (would be an advantage)
The first scheme that you will be in charge of is in the West Midlands and will require site visits of at least 2 days per week so you should be comfortable with being away from home every now and again.

My client is a highly successful concrete frame contractor that is currently engaged on a £5m groundworks and frame package for a new build student accommodation block in Edinburgh.

Due to current business expansion my client is seeking a Temporary Works Coordinator, with experience of working on civil engineering projects, to be responsible for design co-ordination, management and delivery for a variety of temporary works design packages
The main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Acting as principal point of contact for liaison between construction team and external designers
Assisting construction team in the definition and preparation of their design briefs
Monitoring design progress and costs against targets and allowances
Leading buildability reviews with the construction team, and ensuring that the delivered designs fulfil the requirements of the brief and of the site team
Undertake competency assessments of designers and checkers
Ensuring that high standards of quality are adhered to through the self-certification process for design
Ensuring compliance with the project Design Control Procedure for designing, checking and approvals
Lead the design review process with the Client and Third Parties
Obtaining the necessary checks, acceptance and approvals from Client and Third Parties
Carrying out simple design calculations for Category 0 and Category 1 designs
Supported by Temporary Works Supervisors, acting as the designated Temporary Works Co-ordinator for one or more sites, responsible for inspecting and certifying the erection, loading, maintenance, monitoring and removal of temporary works in accordance with project standards and procedures. This includes managing the process for dealing with any design changes on site
Maintaining a schedule of approved Temporary Works drawings and design deliverables, and ensuring that the site team are in possession of the most up to date information
Required technical experience:
HNC / Degree in Civil Engineering (Construction related).
Relevant design experience on civil engineering projects required.
Relevant experience working on design and build contracts.
