Job Summary
Ensure successful completion of technical Braking and steering control system development from Concept to Certification.
This includes development, acceptance of solutions from suppliers and integration of the Braking and Steering Control System, including Definition of System Level Requirements, Follow up of Suppliers activities at System and Equipment Level, definition of V&V, preparation and support to Rig and Flight testing and supporting installation of the system onto the aircraft in compliance with all top-level, performance, operability, certification and safety requirements.

Main Activities
Manage and compile the A350 -1000 Landing gear braking and steering system specification, validation and verification activities. A specification currently exists for the A350 -900 variant which will be used as the baseline, new and modified requirements shall be derived by reviewing upper level customer / stakeholder requirements, incorporating lessons learnt, process modifications and incorporating any specific novelties / features associated specific to the -1000 variant.

Manage and compile A350-1000 BSCS requirement specifications
Provide planning and successful achievement of all development milestones from concept to certification for A350-1000 variant.
Integrate and test equipment into the system (on vendor rigs, corporate rig and A/C)
Manage and co-ordinate the review and comment of system level supplier documentation.
Follow-up the design and test verification to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements
Preparation of System DDP Approval Dossiers to support acceptance of DDPs for Test Rig, A/C power on, Flight test and Certification
Manage suppliers to make sure their schedules are aligned with A/C development milestones.
Represent the A350 BSCS team in ATA32 Design Progress Meetings (DPM) and deputise when required for Systems and A/C DPMs
Support reviews with Airworthiness Authorities and maintainability focus groups with airlines during the development cycle.
Manage day-to-day tasks and activities of a small team of engineers deployed into the BSCS team for A350-1000 programme

Support the rest of the Braking and Steering Control Systems (BSCS) team and in particular:
The Lead Avionics Engineer for BCS software, system monitoring, BITE and complex electronics hardware development.
The Lead Hydro-mechanical Engineer for all hydro-mechanical engineer for the development of the BCS equipment development.
The Braking Performance Engineer for all Braking Performance function development and tuning with special attention to the A/Skid development.
The Engineer Group Leader for reporting progress on development, escalating any blocking points or other integration/development issues.
Ensure that the Braking Control System meets the requirements of interfacing systems, and that the requirements of the BCS on interfacing systems are met and well understood.

Experience required
Significant experience in system integration requirements V&V and supplier integrated project management.
Knowledge of Landing gear systems and structure
An appreciation of systems architecture design (meeting safety, reliability requirements...etc), Hydro-Mechanical equipment, complex electronics hardware and software development, including Design Assurance guidance for H/W and S/W development (DO254 and DO178)
Understanding of complex aircraft system development (ARP4754) and airworthiness rules applicable for Large Aeroplane Systems certification and associated compliance demonstration
Experience of Modelling and Simulation of real time control systems.
Understanding of Process assurance, V&V and Safety processes in compliance to Aerospace industry standard
Good communication skills and a common vision are essential for guiding the supplier to deliver on time and with an appropriate level of robustness.

The objectives for this role include: -
Support equipment specialists within Braking and Steering Systems (BSCS) to assist and lead the development of any modifications within the scope of the BSCS for aircraft equipment.
Provide support to team for the resolution of in-service issues and continuing developments of the Braking and Steering system equipment
Liaise and technically manage the supplier as required
Plan and support system design tasks using a range of analysis tools and methods
Support integrated test rigs, when required
Provide resource estimates and programme plans to complete ongoing equipment activities
Support the modification and re - qualification of the BSCS equipment
Review, create and technical approve (subject to authorisation) technical documents
Support progress review meetings held with the head of Engineering and Chief Engineer's team.

To ensure strong customer focus additional responsibilities of the job are to:-
Report progress on a regular basis, in a comprehensive and timely manner
Attend and present design aspects at design reviews
Liase effectively and co-ordinate with all interface design teams

The job holder will be required to work within a team completing design and analysis for all Braking and Steering equipment activities. The role includes support and co-ordination of various in-service tasks to be completed for equipment development. The role holder must also activity manage the programme, risks and issues for in-service equipment modifications and ensure necessary support for progression of activities.

Required Qualifications and Skills
HND or Degree in Engineering or a related discipline and a demonstrable understanding of hydro mechanical equipment and its function within a system environment.
Knowledge of design, qualification and mod processes
Basic understanding of avionic and system development, preferably within an aerospace context.
Computer literacy
Ability to work within a changing environment
Management of a equipment development and suppliers
Ability to use judgement to make technical recommendations based on incomplete or conflicting design data
Good interpersonal skills
Ability to work as part of a team
Experience of producing technical documentation of a high standard to accurately record design evolution

Additional Desirable Qualifications and Skills
Familiarity with equipment engineering processes
System definition to safety, reliability, maintainability and particular risk requirements
Airworthiness Regulations (specifically CS 25)
