The Role of the Project Engineer
To deal with the management of the appointed in house design team or external resource to ensure on time delivery, within the engineering budget.
Co-ordination of design across disciplines.
Ensure adherence to project plan and planned engineering related project costs.
The Project Engineer will have approval of technical documentation in accordance with the contractual requirements of the project.
The design, checking and approval of control and protection schemes in accordance with established standards.
The Project Engineer will deal with Design Compliance. To provide approval of technical documentation in accordance with contractual requirements of the project.
Ensure design team compliance with the company and client procedures.
The Project Engineer will take ownership and co-ordinate the production of the Design Intent Document / FDS and Design Risk Register.
Ensure design team / supplier compliance with the Design Intent Document / FDS, Design Risk Register and QA plan.
The Project Engineer will identify and communicate technical change management issues, by controlling site query’s, customer comments, commissioning reports, lessons learnt, technical query’s and defect reports, etc..
Chair and minute internal and external design review meetings.
Provide interface management and be the focal point for technical issues between suppliers, customers and site.
Manage the programme and to interface with the planning engineers throughout the contract duration.
Liaise with project management on engineering budgets and related issues.
The Project Engineer will provide technical support in relation to main items of plant and ensure information is provided on time for the applications team or appointed external resource.
Provide the technical expertise to interface protection and control applications for 11kV to 132kV UK substation projects excluding 132Kv GIS contracts.
Design / manage the production of control and protection schemes in accordance with established UK & relevant DNO standards and processes.
Develop technical specification of Plant items such as Transformers, Switchgear, NER’s, CT’s, VT’s, Circuit Breakers, LV AC supply boards and Protection & Control Equipment. - - Manage and ensure accuracy of the production of Wiring / termination diagrams including cable block diagrams, schedules and core sheets from circuit diagrams.
Existing client drawing modifications and interfaces.
Produce asset management lists for main items of plant on each contract.
Interface with Civil Works Design i.e. Ducts, Quantity & Sizes, Cable Trench Sizes & Foundation Ducts, ensure civil contractors compliance to spec.
Preparation of Single line diagrams from specifications.
The Project Engineer will develop / take ownership of interface schematic Diagrams such as:
AC connection diagrams and block tripping diagrams
Distance and unit protection schemes
Biased differential transformer protection
Overcurrent and earth fault protection
Control schemes such as Synchronising, delayed auto recluse
Busbar protection and Circuit breaker fail schemes To calculate Cable sizes, Battery and LVAC loading requirements.
Design Electrical or mechanical interlocking as required.
Review the proposed substation layout against the project requirements.
Review of the proposed equipment and materials related to substation primary systems against the project requirements and highlight any variations from tender.
Essential Skills / Qualifications of the Project Engineer
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic and committed providing high quality support to all other related disciplines, working closely within a team of dedicated professionals.
The ability to communicate at all levels both to clients and within the organisation is essential to this role. The candidate will be capable of working to tight project time scales, work comfortably under pressure and have an honest and loyal approach.
The successful candidate will have a minimum qualification of HNC/HND in electrical engineering or equivalent.
Desirable Skills / Qualifications:
- An experience of the electricity industry, having worked in HV, MV & LV Electrical installation Design would be preferable.
- Previous project management experience with commercial awareness preferred but not essential as training can be given.
- A Switchgear or related main substation component background would be advantageous.

The Transmission Linesmen (Overhead lines technician) will have:-
Experience in construction of overhead power lines (132 kV lines, 275 kV lines)
Worked on height, on towers (masts, pylons), climbing lattice steel structures (132 kV lines, 275 kV lines)
The Overhead Lines Technician will be assembling and erecting towers (132 kV lines, 275 kV lines)

The Overhead Lines Technician will be executing tasks on the overhead power lines as conductor termination, installation of joints, crimping, installation of jumpers, suspension and tension insulators installation, dumpers and spacers installation, knowledge and experience in using hydraulic tools, compressors, stringing machines, winches, hoists etc.
Candidates will have knowledge of safety requirements for working on overhead power lines, general safety and safety from the system, earthing arrangements, permit to work system etc.

You will have a full Driving license
132kv experience.
The Overhead Lines Technician roles will be starting in the next 2/3 weeks (training will be given)
