We are a very busy food manufacturing company in Crawley and have immediate requirements for experienced electro-mechanical Maintenance Engineer to cover our weekend shift Thursday through to Sunday
You will be responsible for providing a comprehensive planned maintenance and breakdown recovery service across the range of production plant and equipment on the manufacturing site. Source methods on how to deliver a continuous improvement plan with main focus in the Process area.
To use electrical/mechanical expertise on the adjustment, maintenance, care and improvement of the following key groups of plant:
• Pasteurisers, Driers, Chillers and Conveyors
• Mixers, formers, Tray form fill, seal packers and various machines
• Silo system
• Boilers and steam service equipment
• Water and Air services and Ventilation systems
To provide a pro-active efficiency improvement to the manufacturing operation
The Role
As a member of the maintenance team you will be responsible for the execution of a positive and timely maintenance and engineering service for designated equipment. It is a requirement that the Engineer is able to work at times with minimal supervision and at all times in a manner which complies with the requirements of the HASAWA and the Food Act. You will liaise with external contractors and assist when required.
You will spend the majority of their time on the shop floor in the High Risk process area in order to be familiar with developing machinery problems and be available for speedy corrective actions
Suggest and carry out improvements to plant and machinery, as directed, to improve efficiency, minimise down-time, make machines safer and/or easier to operate
Work in a tidy and organised fashion thereby maintaining a high level of hygiene and safety
Ensure our machines produce finished product to the quality standards set
Carry out planned maintenance
Resolve long term machine problems
Liaise with the Engineering Manager and machine suppliers to resolve breakdown issues
Be self-motivated and continuously monitor plant, equipment and products
To liaise with other members of the production and engineering team to reduce cost, breakdowns and wastage
Assist in commissioning and set up of new machinery
Ensure machine safety equipment is in good working order
Coach line team members in the proper operation and maintenance of their machinery within guidelines
Train others where necessary, on equipment within designated areas
The Person
You will be an experienced Maintenance Engineer with a strong electro-mechanical machinery maintenance background ideally gained within a food manufacturing environment.
Educated in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering City & Guilds parts 1, 2 and 3 or equivalent
To have served an appropriate apprenticeship
Experience in manufacturing machinery and methods
Good communication skills are essential.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:
QUALITY ASSURANCE
1. Working directly with the suppliers as required to drive timely results and improvements. Through supplier performance analysis implement programme if required to ensure supplier rejects are reduced or maintained at acceptable limits.

5. Raising Non-Compliance Notes to enable the return of items/materials to supplier. Raising appropriate documentation for rework of defective items. Seek concession for acceptance of non-conforming items/materials depending on importance to the end product or certification. Scrapping of non-conforming items/materials and the quarantining of non-conforming products. Working with the source of the non-compliance to implement effective corrective action to ensure repeat non-conformance do not re-occur.
6. Assisting Senior QA Engineer and Group Quality Assurance Engineer with the implementation of Improvement and harmonisation projects.
7. Production of monthly and quarterly Quality KPI’s to Senior Management and Group management teams.
8. Cover/Assist with inspection of Bought-Out items according to supplier grading or Test House requirements during high levels of inspection requirements or annual leave. The authorisation of accompanying documentation as acceptance of accuracy or acceptable product release.
9. Assist with internal and external audit programme, submission of reports and analysis, where necessary, including recommendations.
