Experienced Design Engineer (Chassis / Powertrain)
*The Company*
My client designs and manufactures one of the worlds most famous automotive marques and their vehicles are truly one of the most desirable available.
Known for their innovative design and genuinely awe-inspiring engineering prowess, the companys philosophy is to produce a quality product without compromising on the design, materials or manufacturing.
Due to success of recent models and the development of another ground breaking vehicle, they are now recruiting for an experienced Design Engineer to bring their vision to reality.
*The Role*
Working with some of the most talented designers in the market, this truly exciting position will be responsible for designing and developing chassis, powertrain and associated elements in conjunction with a multi-disciplined team.
It will be your responsibility, in conjunction with the rest of the team, to develop innovative designs relating to chassis, powertrain and related components that meet the technical needs of the project and that merge seamlessly with other aspects of the design.
You will also be tasked with taking these designs and modifying them to take into account weight, material integrity, cost and build requirements. This will include supervising the manufacture of any prototypes and their testing.
Moving forward you will be involved in taking your concept design into prototype manufacture, followed by detailed testing to ensure suitability, durability and overall performance.
*The Ideal Candidate*
This position is critical to the success of the project and therefore requires significant experience within design and development. Recent graduates or those with minimal real world exposure will not be suited, regardless of the level of qualification.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in designing the areas mentioned above, preferably from within niche vehicle design or high value, low volume automotive manufacture and be experienced in new model design.
You will be degree qualified or carry relevant industry qualifications and significant experience within a similar role.
You will also:
Be expert in solid modeling and surfacing with 3D CAD systems (CATIA, NX etc.)
Have the ability to support designs with calculations and similar data
Be proficient in geometric tolerancing and have the ability to provide detailed information with the data taken
Have a strong understanding of automotive design and manufacturing techniques, along with design failure and effects analysis for your designs
Be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) and have the ability to get across fairly complex engineering matters in a clear and concise manner
Have the ability to work with multi-disciplined teams and understand how their own responsibilities affect your own designs
A strong understanding of materials (including composites) and how these would be utilised within the chassis and powertrain designs
In addition to the above it is also expected that you are flexible, self-motivated and a true engineer at heart.
In return my client is offering an excellent salary and benefits package that befits the importance of the role, along with working with some of the worlds most creative engineers.
*Applying*
If this role is of interest and you carry ALL the areas mentioned above, forward your CV and I will contact those that most suit the needs of the role within 3 days of receipt.

Role Title: Design Engineer (Various Levels)
The Company
My client is a respected global player within the plant and process layout field, providing their expertise on virtually every continent in developing new facilities or the modernisation of existing manufacturing sites.
With an enviable order-book and record revenues in recent years; bucking the trend and global downturn, they are now looking to develop their design function to cope with current and future workloads by recruiting several Design Engineers at various stages of their career, which will be responsible for the effective designs within major projects.
These roles would suit candidates ranging from those with only a few years relevant experience, right through to established Design Engineers with a significant number of years under their belt.
The Role
Working closely with multi-disciplinary project teams, it will be your task to provide your expertise to provide layout designs for new manufacturing facilities. It is important to point out that this is not a product design role, designing conveyors or capital machinery, but designing where these and other items would be placed for an effective manufacturing process.
This includes taking preliminary engineering information to develop suitable layout designs for the mechanical and electrical teams to put into place.
Typical designs include process equipment layout drawings (conveyor systems, duct-work, pipework, fans, pumps etc.) and will include both 2D ?block layout?, through to more detailed 3D layout drawings that can visually represent the finished facility and highlight any clashes or issues before the costly installation phase begins.
Projects cover all aspects of mechanical & electrical installations and process plant layout, which requires a good level of design knowledge to ensure that key areas are feasible and in keeping with the client?s expectations. Because of this your design, planning and communication skills must be top-notch, as must your ability to deal at all levels ranging from the shop-floor to the boardroom.
There may be some occasional overseas travel within this role, so you must have no travel restrictions or issues in obtaining visas. In the event that you need to travel overseas, an uplift in salary will be paid as will an allowance for staying away, this is in addition to a very generous salary and benefits package.
The Person
This is a business critical role and requires you to have the following skills, experience and attributes:
* Firstly be an experienced Design Engineer with significant knowledge of all aspects of plant and process layout & installation on high value / large scale projects. Unfortunately domestic applications bear no relevance due to the scope of the projects this company are involved with
*Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline or with suitable qualifications within an engineering arena and substantial experience within the design field (not product design)
* Have the ability to design in both 2D and 3D, utilising modern design packages. (All packages will be considered so long as they are relevant)
* Be familiar with providing calculations relating to the movement of air, fluids, pipe sizing and similar functions of pumps and air handling units (think HVAC but extremely large HVAC)
* Be able to generate accurate primary designs for each project and modifications for any changes mid-project
* You should be able to contribute to discussions regarding the installation and sequence of build but specification of plant, pumps and capital equipment will be dealt with by the Project Engineering team
* Have excellent document control abilities and be responsible for utilising a document issuing system to ensure correct revisions are being used for manufacture and on site
* Be an exceptional communicator (both written and verbal) at all levels
* A confident decision maker based on the available information and a good problem solver
IT literate (Microsoft Office applications ? Word, Excel, PowerPoint, email etc.)
* Be a self-starter with the ability to prioritise workloads and be calm under pressure
Other attributes that are not essential but would be useful include:
? Knowledge of automotive, aerospace or similar high value manufacturing environments
? An understanding of structural steelwork including structural analysis and calculations
? Ability to generate design risk assessments
? Ability to assist in producing sales or proposal drawings
The Rewards
In return for the above skills and experience my client is offering an excellent salary and benefits package that includes:
* Excellent base salary based on experience
* Excellent bonus system
* Healthcare
* Life assurance
* Good pension
* Good holiday allocation, including flexi-time allowance
