Main Responsibilities

1.Negotiate and agree best value buying and selling prices and arrange collection and delivery of goods.
2.Manage the marketing of a portfolio of products – this portfolio will change from time to time. You will be required to get an orientation of different product portfolios to assist when other buyers are absent.
3. Comply with the company’s buying, selling and marketing policies.
4. Research and recommend plans and sales programmes for procurement of produce and services taking into account supply lead times.
5. Meet with customers and suppliers to establish the requirements and obligations of both, while identifying marketing and sales opportunities. Develop and manage good relationships our customers and follow through with marketing strategies.
6. Carry out presentations to customers and provide supporting data and information if this is required.
7. Negotiate prices with customers and suppliers.
8.When required, host customers and suppliers in the UK and carry out overseas travel to nurture new and existing relationships and sources.
9. Achieve the company’s profit objective. Develop existing customers. Increase the company’s market share in existing and new areas.
10. Strive to increase trading profit while reducing operating costs.
11. Negotiate and control expenditure against budget.

Scope:

Responsible for the development and performance of all sales activities. Our office-based Business Development Executives are the vital first line of our sales approach and their ability to get to the decision makers and secure appointments for our Business Development Managers ultimately impacts on the success of our business.
Tasks and Responsibilities
Your day-to-day role would typically include the following:
Identifying prospects
Keeping your eyes and ears open, especially through reading trade, national and business press, you will work with your team to identify potential prospects. You might notice an organisation that has a large number of adverts, or one whose adverts are not particularly eye catching or well written. Alternatively, the editorial might provide clues that point to companies investing in or recruiting large numbers of people.
Research and investigation
Prior to ringing a prospect you need to do some groundwork to understand as much as you can about their situation and current recruitment activity. Press and on-line adverts and their own website are good starting points.

You will also need to develop a working knowledge about the scope of products People offers and the market that we operate in, in order to understand the benefits of our competitive position and deal with basic questions that might get you ‘through the door’.
Making contact and relationship building
You will spend a lot of time on the phone making calls to prospects. Some of these will be cold calls but others will be to follow up previous calls or contacts made by you or your business development manager. During these calls you will be seeking to qualify that the prospect is a worthwhile target and find out more about the contracts they currently hold – for example when they are up for renewal and who the incumbent agency is.
Marketing initiatives
We use a number of useful tactics to generate leads and meetings such as mailers, seminars and events. The right candidate will love the opportunity to develop ideas for such marketing activities, show initiative in supporting their team to plan and implement these and fully utilise these to generate meetings.
Follow through
Following your telephone conversations you may take the opportunity to target email communications with further information and credentials which have been agreed with the business development manager.
Database maintenance and reporting
Our marketing database, Goldmine, will support your prospecting and you will need to keep it updated daily with details of prospects, contacts and the conversations you have had with them. The records kept on Goldmine will form the basis of your activity reports to your line manager and help you plan and review your own activities.
Person Specification
While you will be part of a team, you’ll often work alone and need to be self motivated, proactive and able to organise and plan your own workload. You need to be confident in using your judgement in making decisions and taking initiative. However, you will be aware of how your role fits into the wider team effort in achieving sales targets and be prepared to seek information from and feed information to your colleagues.
You will be results orientated with tenacity to keep trying to get through to the people who matter. Your curiosity and hunger to learn will drive you to research the market and your prospects in depth so that you can anticipate their needs and objections. You need to be a great communicator with excellent telephone manner and command of English language. You will be able to build rapport and use your powers of persuasiveness to generate openings for further communications.
You should also be able to write English fluently with a good command of grammar and punctuation. You will have a concern for excellence in checking your written work before you send it and keen attention to detail in keeping your sales records on Goldmine.
