Thursday 1st May 2008 Indian firm outsources to Northern Ireland

Outsourcing involving India most often sees customer services and call centre sent to the subcontinent by UK companies, but a major investment in Northern Ireland has bucked the trend.
Indian telecommunications firm Firstsource set up its first bases in Belfast and Derry around a year ago and is now set to expand its operations further, according to 4ni.co.uk.
Already employing some 500 people at its Northland Road office, the firm is looking to honour a pledge to create 1,000 jobs in Northern Ireland and has recently revealed plans for the next stage of its expansion.
According to 4ni.co.uk, Northern Irish economy minister Nigel Dodds said: "Firstsource is well on its way to creating over 1,000 jobs at its Belfast and Londonderry centres.
"Investments made by international companies such as Firstsource are playing an important role in introducing new business skills to the Northern Ireland economy."
Job creation in Northern Ireland could also come from closer to home this year, as the Republic seeks to respond to financial skills shortages by recruiting graduates north of the border.
