Thursday 8th May 2008 Arcadia Group 'justifies' top employer label

Britain's biggest retailer, the Arcadia Group, has had its credentials as an employer profiled by the Times, coming out as an attractive proposal for people seeking jobs in retail.
Boasting high street favourites such as Burton, Dorothy Perkins, Topman and Miss Selfridge within its brand empire, the group came out 47th in the Times' Top 100 Graduate Employers in 2007, jumping four places from the year before.
Other top retailers on the graduate recruitment wish list were Tesco, remaining in 26th place, and Marks and Spencer, which jumped five places from 22nd to 17th.
Profiling the employment practices of Arcadia, the Times claimed that the retail group offered a range of options for students and university leavers seeking retail opportunities.
A limited number of 12-month business placements in the finance and human resources departments of the company are an option for students on sandwich-degree courses, while 300 graduates a year are reportedly snapped up for Arcadia's retail management programme and high responsibility head office roles.
And starting salaries for graduates are this year between £17,500 and £23,000, it was claimed, plus the added bonus of 25 per cent discounts on group merchandise.
