Friday 16th May 2008 Increase in financial job vacancies in City

It seems the current economic turmoil is having less of an effect on than previously reported.
Research unveiled today show that there was actually a rise in the number of positions available in London's banking district last month.
The figures from headhunter Morgan McKinley show that vacancies in the sector were up ten per cent last month compared to March.
Robert Thesiger, chief executive officer of Imprint Plc, Morgan McKinley's parent company, said: "It is encouraging to see a rise in the number of job opportunities available within the City.
"While some organisations, and those hardest hit by the credit crunch will maintain their cautious approach, others are pushing on with their expansion plans and are benefiting from the current increase in available talent."
In the financial year of 2008 City workers were handed an eye-watering £9 billion in bonuses between them, while last year they took a slice of a £7 billion bonus pie.
