Lying on a CV is 'very serious indeed'

Lying on a CV is 'very serious indeed'

Register Your CV
Applicants should not lie on their CV as it could have serious consequences, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).

If a recruiter finds discrepancies in a CV an applicant is very unlikely to get the job and their reputation in the industry will be tarnished making it harder for them to seek employment in the same sector.

Anne Fairweather, head of public policy at REC, said: "The whole application process - of which a CV is part of is designed to identify the skills of an individual, if you are lying about professional qualifications it could be very serious indeed."

All good recruiters will thoroughly check a CV to make sure there are no inaccuracies so it is very unwise to lie on a CV, claims REC.

"We don't think it's very positive and people shouldn't be encouraged to put white lies on their CV. I think most people would recognise that they need to enter an application process honestly," said Ms Fairweather.

Research by the Risk Advisory Group revealed that more than 50 per cent of CVs submitted for job applications contained inaccuracies.
