Monday 23rd June 2008 Call centre sales jobs available in Scotland

Hundreds of jobs in sales will be created after Scottish and Southern Energy bought a Cumbernauld call centre from Barclaycard, according to reports. About 200 sales jobs will be available after Scottish and Southern Energy announced that there was possible scope for the expansion of operations at the Cumbernauld call centre. Around 800 jobs in sales were set to be axed after Barclaycard said it would close the call centre in May, three months after taking over the site from Goldfish credit card business for £35million. First Minister Alex Salmond told the Glasgow Evening Times: "This will be a significant boost to Cumbernauld and to the Scottish economy. Finding this new buyer is a tribute to all those involved and the best possible outcome for the workers." All of the existing staff with jobs in sales will be offered retraining while the creation of a training centre at the site has been proposed. Scottish and Southern Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK, according to the Glasgow Evening Times.
