Tuesday 1st July 2008 Flexibility benefits people with jobs in IT

More employers are permitting their workers more flexibility as it can be beneficial for both parties, according to reports.
A growing number of companies are allowing their employees with jobs in IT to work from home as it will help them recruit and retain more workers as well as cutting down on carbon emissions caused by the commute to work.
Melissa Godfray, senior manager, equality and diversity at Lloyds TSB, told onrec.com: "In our team, for example, we have a weekly location planner so that everyone both internally and externally knows where everyone else is and when they are available, even if it is on the phone or by email."
Workers with IT jobs can benefit from working from home as it improves their work-life balance because they can spend more time with their family instead of commuting.
"Communicating successful flexible working is enormously important too, and we take every opportunity to showcase the people men and women at all levels who do it," Ms Godfrey told onrec.com.
Research by BT revealed that an employee working from home has a 20 per cent higher productivity rate than when they are in the office.
