Tuesday 1st July 2008 Commercial complex to bring jobs to Huddersfield

Hundreds of jobs could be created in Huddersfield after stadium bosses announced plans for a commercial complex in the town, reports the Huddersfield Examiner.
Over 700 jobs including jobs in retail will be generated if proposals for a massive tourist village which will incorporate an outdoor ski slope, a casino and bingo hall as well as a convenience store and sports shop are accepted by planning officials.
Stadium managing director Ralph Rimmer told the Examiner: "This is an attempt to bring in new and interesting things to the town. We have tried to be innovative and make it an attractive proposition for everyone."
Set to be located at Galpharm Stadium, the project is expected to cost over £100 million, according to planners.
Speaking to the newspaper, Robert Light, leader of Kirklees Council, said: "This is a great proposal which will further enhance the position of Huddersfield in the region and link the Leeds Road stadium complex to the town."
Plans for the complex are expected to be submitted this month and if approved work would begin by next year.
