Wednesday 13th August 2008 Retail jobs - Supermarket giant could create retail jobs in the north

Hundreds of retail jobs might be generated in the north of England if Tesco gets planning approval for two new stores, it has been reported.
As many as 150 new retail jobs could be made available in Rotherham, according to the South Yorkshire Star, while the News Post Leader has reported that an estimated 200 jobs in retail could be generated by a new Tesco supermarket in Morpeth.
Whether these new stores will be constructed is in the hands of planning officials but Tesco is confident that both proposals will be successful as they have received public support.
Tesco's corporate affairs manager for the north east, Douglas Wilson, told the News Post Leader: "We know the people of Morpeth have been crying out for a new supermarket to give them greater choice. Tesco's investment in Morpeth will generate a significant amount of additional money into the local economy."
Tesco took over German company Metro AG this year to become the world's third largest retailer, according to reports.
