Monday 18th August 2008 Engineering jobs - Atomic site will generate 1000s of jobs

Jobs in engineering will be made available in Oxfordshire in the coming years after the government announced support for a public-private venture, it has been reported.
Thousands of engineering jobs are expected to be created over the next 20 years now that private businesses can fund research at the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) site in Harwell.
New laboratory, technological and industrial space will be constructed to house the new engineering jobs following the deal with the UKAEA, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and international property group Goodman.
Science and innovation minister Ian Pearson said: "This joint venture will see Harwell continue to build on its 60-year history and further strengthen its position as a renowned base for world-class research infrastructure and innovative businesses in the future."
Administration jobs will also be generated to be part of a massive support staff that will assist the running of the Harwell Science and Innovation Campus.
Mr Pearson predicts the new project will rival the Massachusetts Institute of Technology when underway.
