Wednesday 20th August 2008 IT jobs - IT firm shows no sign of slowdown

Jobs in IT are still available in the UK workplace despite the current economic climate, claims a computer firm.
According to Contractor UK, technology services group Capgemini revealed positive financial figures compared to last year with a 3.9 per cent increase in orders while its operating profit leapt 25 per cent, a sign that the IT job market is still healthy, stated its chief executive. "So far we have not actually recorded any sign of a slowdown. Customer demand has not softened so far. Of course (we are) prepared for a slowdown but (let's) not create it," Paul Hermelin told Contractor UK. Mr Hermelin claims that by outsourcing some IT jobs to Asia and eastern Europe to cut costs, more domestic jobs in IT can be created to support the outsourced staff. According to Mr Hermelin, if there is a recession it will not affect the IT industry as badly as before and IT jobs will still be available. "IT expenditure will be comparatively resilient if there is an industry downturn this time around," he told the website. A study by Contractor UK discovered that the average employee with an IT job was paid £35,160 a year.
