Thursday 21st August 2008 Confidence stops women getting financial job

A lack of self belief is the biggest barrier that is stopping female employees getting a job in finance, claims a successful entrepreneur. According to Shaa Wasmund, chief executive of Bright Station Ventures, women have more to juggle in their life compared to their male counterparts which combined with a disparity in pay stops them believing they can get a top financial job. "I feel that women tend to lack the same confidence or bravado that men do and the self-belief that they can genuinely achieve whatever they put their minds to," she said. Ms Wasmund argues that more women will be encouraged to seek a job in finance as there is a confident new generation of female graduates that are becoming more successful in the finance industry. "I would really encourage women to look at the reality and the reality is that women are just as successful, if not more successful, than men," she added. Apprentice runner-up Claire Young was offered a financial job at Birmingham football club after impressing bosses during the reality TV show.
