Friday 22nd August 2008 Retail jobs - Supermarket will create more retail jobs

Hundreds of jobs in retail will be made available in Liverpool after a supermarket giant got permission to build a new store, the Liverpool Daily Post has reported. Tesco will create up to 200 new retail jobs when it constructs a Tesco Express store on a former industrial site in Litherland as part of an ongoing national expansion initiative. Michael Kissman, Tesco corporate affairs manager, told the Daily Post: "The scheme will create over 200 jobs alone, not to mention the employment opportunities created through the new industrial units which we are supporting with a financial contribution to local employment organisations." According to Mr Kissman, the construction of the new store is likely to encourage more retailers to move to the area and create jobs in retail. "Across Merseyside and the wider North West, we are committed to delivering retail-led regeneration," he told the newspaper. Retail jobs will also be on offer at Asda when it opens a new supermarket in Bootle Strand in October.
