Tuesday 26th August 2008 Retail jobs – Supermarket expansion creates retail jobs

Hundreds of jobs in retail will be generated in Leicester when a supermarket giant expands its store, the Leicester Mercury has reported.
Up to 200 new jobs in retail, from management to shop-floor level, are to be created by Sainsbury's after it announced it would redevelop its supermarket store at Fosse Park.
Kathy Murdoch, director of Fosse Park, told the Mercury: "In the light of the current economic climate, I am delighted Sainsbury's has chosen to invest in its Fosse Park store. The provision of 200 jobs is good news for the area and Leicester as a whole."
According to local business authorities, the retail job news is encouraging for Leicester as the area seems to be combating the effects of the credit crunch.
Dermot Breen, of Leicestershire Chamber of Commerce, told the newspaper: "To bring in that number of jobs shows we are on the register for national companies. It is very positive in Leicester - we are bucking the national trend."
It is expected that the supermarket expansion will take two years to complete.
