Tuesday 26th August 2008 Financial jobs – Financial job seekers told to learn from mistakes

People looking for a finance job must be prepared to accept some form of failure in their employment search, claims a successful entrepreneur.
According to Shaa Wasmund, chief executive of Bright Station Ventures, English finance job seekers should seek inspiration from the American business mentality and be prepared to learn from their mistakes when they experience a set back.
"I do genuinely believe there is a different cultural mentality [in the States]. I also think it is in their culture to be entrepreneurial and they view 'failure' much more as a lesson learned as opposed to something's that's negative," she said.
Ms Wasmund claims that those looking for a finance job should take heart from the fact that famous business people like Sir Richard Branson and Sir Alan Sugar have all encountered problems in their career.
"No successful business person has got to be successful without having some failure along the way," she added.
According to the Natwest and RBS Small Business Monitor 2008, in the UK, 32 per cent of men have either set up a business for themselves or considered doing so, compared to just 19 per cent of women.
