Wednesday 27th August 2008 Engineering jobs - Engineering jobs hit by skills shortage

Millions of engineering jobs will be available in the coming years but a skills shortage may stop them from being filled, the BBC has reported.
According to engineering entrepreneur James Dyson, there are not enough people leaving school and university with engineering qualifications which is leading to a national skills shortage.
CBI officials have stated that the government needs to do more to encourage children to seek out jobs in engineering.
Sarah Morris, of the CBI in the south-west, told the BBC: "Over the next four years we'll be creating two million new jobs that need science, technology, engineering or maths.
"We're calling on the government to invest a modest £120 million in specific careers advice, to show young people exactly how promising a career in engineering can be"
Despite a slowdown in the UK housing market, jobs in engineering are still very much in demand, claims the Recruitment and Employment Confederation.
