Thursday 28th August 2008 Finance jobs - Peer-to-peer support vital for women in finance jobs

Female employees in finance jobs benefit from support given to them by experienced women colleagues, claims an entrepreneur.
According to Shaa Wasmund, the developer of Bebo, as there is a pay gap between men and women in finance jobs it is important for woman to reach out to other female employees for support in the industry.
"There is nothing more important to your business than being able to learn from somebody who has already done it," she said.
Ms Wasmund claims that peer-to-peer support between female bosses and women employees can make the workplace a more motivated and productive place.
"To be able to learn from somebody who is maybe a year or two ahead of you and actually have that absolutely crucial peer-to-peer advice and support, it is a really crucial element in them gaining that self-belief and confidence," she added.
According to the Natwest and RBS Small Business Monitor 2008, if females matched male startup rates in the UK this would create 150,000 new businesses.
