IT jobs - IT workers want more training

A new study has suggested that people with jobs in IT are more likely to stay with their employer if they receive adequate training.

Research by Computer Economics revealed that 71 per cent of those in jobs in IT would respond better to greater training and support in their role compared to a rise in pay.

According to Computer Economics, IT jobs are likely to be made available in the future as the UK IT industry is facing a skills shortage.

"IT managers often worry that investments in training will be reaped by other organisations when IT workers shop their new skills around … but this study indicates [it is] the best way to retain employees," said John Longwell, director of research for Computer Economics.

A study by Income Data Services found that salaries for IT user-support technicians have jumped 13 per cent to £24,177, while systems engineers' salaries are up almost ten per cent to £31,120.
