Friday 29th August 2008 Engineering jobs - Power station to generate engineering jobs

Thousands of jobs in engineering are expected to be created after the government approved plans for the construction of a green power station, the Northern Echo has reported. A proposed gas-fired plant at Seal Sands, in Teesside, has been granted planning permission by the department for business, enterprise and regulatory reform. Paul Verrill, project manager, told the Echo: "A new generation of cleaner, super-efficient gas-fired power stations is likely to remain necessary in the short to medium term." Thor Cogeneration is behind the plant which needs less gas to generate electricity and will cut carbon emissions by 60 per cent compared to coal-fired plants. Martin Green, Thor Cogeneration's director, told the newspaper: "We welcome the decision. We will now finalise the financial and contractual arrangements and would expect land preparation to start very soon with the full construction starting in 2009." Thor Cogeneration expects the plant to be completed and ready for operations in 2012. Click here for engineering jobs
