Tuesday 2nd September 2008 Firms need to focus on recruitment

A large number of employers need to realise the importance and benefits of recruiting, Personnel Today has reported.
In a poll of 544 employers, research by careers advice provider b-live revealed that less than one in five said they provided enough work experience for young people while more than half admitted that they did not focus enough on recruiting graduates and school leavers.
B-live claim that by engaging with young people at the pre-employment stage firms can help close emerging skills gaps in UK industries and recruit and retain new talent. Tanja Kuveljic, managing director at b-live, told the website: "Better communication [by] businesses will give young people a better insight into the jobs available and the skills and qualifications required.
"It will also add real value to the business by creating a sufficient talent pipeline, cutting recruitment costs and increasing retention."
According to the BBC, recent data shows that the number of people not in employment increased by 60,000 in the three months to June this year.
