Tuesday 2nd September 2008 Retail jobs - People with retail jobs benefit from training

Thorough and intensive training in will boost profits and make people with jobs in retail feel more valued in the long-term, according to senior staff at Lush.
Staff trainer Lisa Titcomb and retail director Liz Bennet from the cosmetics company, said that it is very important that training is relevant, as "bad training can be de-moralising, de-motivating and damaging to the brand".
They added: "When people are trained to a high quality they feel invigorated, motivated and have a desire to do well.
"When people are demoralised and under-valued then this reaches throughout the whole company and will affect the whole work culture."
Research by the National Employer Skills Survey last year found that just under half of all employers had a comprehensive training plan.
It also found that an estimated 37 per cent of employees in England received no training in any form in the past year.
