Wednesday 3rd September 2008 Major cities provide more job opportunities

While the credit crunch may be reducing the number of jobs on offer, job seekers will always fare better in the UK's biggest cities, claims the Institute of Legal Executives (ILEX).
According to Ray Barrowdale, press officer for ILEX, opportunities in the UK job market are not as widespread as they have been previously due to the current economic climate but those looking for jobs were best off in major cities.
"As with anything else, probably the bigger the place the more opportunities there are. London, Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester will probably have more opportunities if you work there than the smaller towns," he said.
Despite the gloomy economic forecasts, Britain will not suffer as badly as it did in the early 1990s and there will still be jobs available for skilled candidates, claims Mr Barrowdale.
"As the economy slows down and job opportunities are probably not as widespread as they were but there are certainly still jobs available for people who have qualifications and experience," he said.
In its annual Employee Satisfaction Survey this year, Legal Week found that the number one reason for people to stay at a company was the intellectual challenge provided.
