Thursday 4th September 2008 Sales jobs - Sales jobs employees respond to rewards

Offering people with sales jobs a reward can provide extra motivation and improve productivity, claims the Institute For Employment Studies (IES).
According to the IES, while people with jobs in sales generally respond well to incentives, it is vital that an employer recognises what motivates their workers as different things will encourage different people.
Dilys Robinson, a principal research fellow at the IES, said: "There are some groups of employees for whom incentives work quite well people in sales, for example, which, traditionally, has been incentive driven."
Ms Robinson believes that not all employees are purely motivated by money and that some would prefer non-financial rewards such as recognition.
"For some, the recognition of being employee of the month or having a weekend in Paris or something might be really great," she added.
A Trade Union Congress report revealed that 66 per cent of employees say they enjoy their work.
