The City would not be experiencing such a downturn if more women were employed in finance jobs in the sector, according to a psychologist. Julia Noakes, who works with high-flyers in the City, believes that a stronger female influence is needed in jobs in finance in the trading game, the Times reports. She told the newspaper: "The problem in finance is that there is too much thrusting individualism and not enough femininity. "A lot of women are deterred from striving for senior management positions because they don't want to deny 50 per cent of their personalities." There have been too many chances taken as men dominate jobs in finance, according to a Liverpool University study, with males more likely to take bigger risks. Professor Joe Herbert, author of the report, stated that "inappropriate risk-taking may be disastrous" and pointed to hormonal differences between men and women as a major reason behind the different approaches to risk-taking.
