New jobs in retail will be generated in Bedlington after supermarket giant Tesco unveiled plans to increase the size of its store, it has been reported. Around 80 new retail jobs are set to be created as Tesco wants to expand its Bedlington supermarket by 17,000 square feet as part of a multi-million pound investment. Tesco's corporate affairs manager Doug Wilson said: "This is a very exciting proposal that will mean new jobs and a far greater choice and shopping experience for Tesco customers. We are delighted to be able to play such a key role in the regeneration of Bedlington town centre." More jobs in retail could be on their way to the region as Tesco said it would provide local businesses with six retail units as part of the expansion proposal. Wansbeck Life chief executive Bob Stephenson told the News Post Leader: "This is not only an excellent way to revitalise the town centre, it will also provide many of the new businesses springing up in the area the opportunity to be based in the very heart of a new and re-energised Bedlington town centre."
