Tuesday 21st October 2008 Finance jobs - Bosses want more women in top finance jobs

A group of Britain's business leaders have said that more women are needed in top finance jobs across the UK. Sir Philip Hampton, J Sainsbury chairman and BP chairman Peter Sutherland, are among the list of 17 industry leaders to sign a letter to the Daily Telegraph which argues that women should be better represented in finance jobs. The letter cites research that reveals just 12 per cent of FTSE 100 firms are headed by females. Nadereh Chamlou, a senior adviser at the World Bank, told the Telegraph: "The current economic and financial crisis gives us the opportunity to insert gender into the re-writing of the rules. We need new people at the table - people who are not associated with the past." Everyone who signed the letter is a member of the FTSE 100 Cross-Company Mentoring Programme, which seeks to identify women suitable to be appointed in board positions. According to the Association of Graduate Recruiters, vacancies for graduate level positions have increased by 11.7 per cent on 2007 figures. Click here for financial jobs
