Tuesday 11th November 2008 Engineering jobs - New renewable energy park 'will create engineering jobs'

Hundreds of engineering jobs could be coming to Selby after an energy firm announced plans to build a new power plant.
Whites Renewable Energy is planning to transform an area of the former Tate & Lyle Citric Acid Plant in Selby as part of a £20 million project that will bring around 120 engineering jobs to the area.
David Balderson, from Selby Renewable Energy Park, said: "This project will provide a significant boost to the local economy by creating jobs and will also make available a cheap non fossil fuel heat source that will attract businesses to the area."
The renewable power plant will use anaerobic digestion technology to generate energy from organic material which is usually found in black bin bag waste.
Jo Adlard, project manager with Future Energy Yorkshire, said: "The proposed Selby Renewable Energy Park will contribute to our regional emissions reduction targets by generating renewable energy for export to the Grid, while diverting large quantities of waste from landfill."
Mr Balderson hopes the new plant will generate enough energy to power 10,800 homes for a year.
