Thursday 20th November 2008 Dundee development will create jobs

Hundreds of jobs will become available in Dundee if plans for a new major development are accepted by planning officials.
Jobs in construction and retail jobs are to be generated if Dundee City Council approves plans for a £75 million project including a supermarket, hotel and offices by developers Macdonald Estates.
Supermarket giant Asda are set to open a store on the site, which will create hundreds of jobs in retail.
Lisa Rooke, from Asda, said: "We are extremely excited about our plans to bring a new store to the west of Dundee. Our proposals represent a significant investment in the area and will generate up to 480 new full and part-time jobs for local people."
Furthermore, 250 construction jobs are predicted to be made available before work begins on the development.
Niall McLean, development manager at Macdonald Estates, added: "This is a very important mixed-use development opportunity for Dundee at a time when overall investment and development opportunities are limited."
The hotel and office developments are expected to create an extra 170 jobs.
