Monday 1st December 2008 'Money needed to save engineering jobs'

The Engineering Employers' Federation (EEF) is calling on the government to help provide a boost to the manufacturing industry.
It says that up to 90,000 engineering jobs could be at risk over the next 12 months if action is not taken to help industrial groups.
A survey conducted by the group found that positive progress being made by the sector has been "destroyed almost overnight by the catastrophic effect of the recent turmoil in financial markets".
EEF chief economist Steve Radley said: "Manufacturers have made substantial progress in recent years in improving performance but the next 12 months are set to be some of the most difficult in two decades."
The report, however, did have some encouraging aspects, suggesting that the "pace of job cuts will not match that of previous recessions".
It said that although there was a fall in output and uncertain outlook, manufacturers were looking to cut production and shifts rather than members of staff.
