Tuesday 2nd December 2008 Finance jobs - Finance jobs 'are unpopular'

Job seekers are being deterred from applying for jobs in finance because of the current economic climate, according to a bank's HR chief.
Maria Bentley, global head of HR for investment bank UBS, told Personnel Today that people who be put off the financial sector because of the recent upheaval in the City of London and this could affect the job market for years to come.
"It's true our sector is not very popular right now, and that may continue for several years," she told the website.
Ms Bentley went on to say that some banks might reduce their recruitment efforts and limit programmes devised to attract fresh talent in order to cut unnecessary costs during the credit crunch.
In the future, Ms Bentley said that it is important that banks handle themselves well and ensure they are part of the solution to repair the finance industry.
Figures published in November by the Office for National Statistics revealed that the number of people in employment decreased by 99,000 over the previous quarter.
