Experts are advising that people in IT jobs or other occupations which involve using a computer should ensure that they are getting enough exercise.

System Concepts says that moving around as much as possible in the office is important as there is very little which is not done in front of a screen in today's working environment.

Joint managing director at the firm Tom Stewart said: "The key thing is the requirement for activity, otherwise you end up trapped with your eyes on the screen, hands on the keyboard, bum on the seat.

"Practically everything from emailing and filing to finding out what you are going to do in the evening to booking your sandwich at lunch.

"Knowledge workers are effectively locked to technology, but our bodies are designed to move."

Research from University of Bristol found that exercise helped re-energise and improve concentration among workers as well as making people feel calmer.
