Friday 19th December 2008 IT jobs - IT jobs 'resilient' in current climate

People looking for jobs in IT may be pleased to know that the sector is one of the few that is coping with the credit crunch, according to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC).
Kevin Green, chief executive of the organisation, said that there are still some IT jobs available despite the bleak news for those looking for work in the UK that unemployment has risen by 137,000 to 1.86 million.
"Some sectors are proving more resilient to the downturn including healthcare, specific areas within IT and higher end interim jobs," he said.
Mr Green went on to say that there are currently 300,000 unfilled vacancies in the UK so it is important that job seekers have the best CV available to compete during the global economic downturn.
"The feedback from professional recruiters confirms that there is a tightening in demand from employers in most key sectors. At the same time, it is important to note that there are still opportunities out there," he added.
According to the Association of Teachers and Lecturers, English schools are among the best in the world at teaching IT skills.
