Wednesday 14th January 2009 IT jobs - Students 'well equipped' for IT jobs

Most students now have the necessary technology skills to prepare them for IT jobs more than every before, graduate advisors have suggested. The current generation are as comfortable using technology as completing more traditional everyday tasks, according to the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS). Elspeth Farrar, communications director for AGCAS, commented that schools are now providing a more thorough background in computers for youngsters looking to get jobs in IT in the future. "The majority of students are very well versed with technology and IT skills. The current generation of students coming straight from school or college, they have been using computers now all of their lives," she said. "They are as familiar with these computers as they are eating or drinking. It's the way they communicate, it's the way they organise their lives, their social existence and really it's just an extension of that." Becta revealed in November that 79 per cent of children now use instant messenger, while 140,000 pupils in the UK even have their own webpage. Click here to find more about IT jobs
