Developing new skills is vital to workers if they do not want to get left behind in IT jobs, experts have claimed.
As new technology develops, it is especially important to people in jobs in IT that they stay up to date with the fast-moving rate of the industry, according to IT Contractor.
Gerry McLaughlin from the firm commented that contract workers are currently in demand in the UK, but this could be affected by the economic downturn.
"The opportunity to get new skills would be important as contractors, who seldom get training, often get left behind by new technologies," he said.
"At the moment companies are cutting permanent IT workers rather than getting rid of contractors. Whilst the permanent market is falling, the contract market is pretty stable."
A survey from IT solutions company Parity has found that contract length is the most important factor when deciding on IT jobs for one-fifth of contractors.
