Wednesday 28th January 2009 Graduates 'attracted' to travel and tourism jobs

The marketing and product side of the travel and tourism industry is very appealing to graduates, it has been suggested.
According to the Institute of Travel & Tourism, those who have left higher education are interested in being able to "experience...and sell the product".
Claire Steiner, director, chair of education and training at the Institute, noted that for many graduates part of the attraction is the ability to visit various locations.
She noted that graduates are also intrigued by the prospect of working closely with local tourist boards.
Ms Steiner said: "A lot of students are keen on the marketing side of things and the product side where you get to experience the product and sell the product. You visit the destinations and you work with the local tourist board promoting the destinations to the UK market."
She went on to say that there are many domestic opportunities for graduates as well.
"A lot of people enjoy the sales side and they're lots of opportunities there as well," Ms Steiner added.
