Friday 30th January 2009 IT jobs - IT jobs are 'still available'

A significant number of jobs in IT are still available despite the focus on firms making redundancies during the credit crunch, according to the British Computer Society (BSC).
Rebecca George, chair of the BCS Women's Forum, said that in the current economic climate it is difficult for the IT industry to assess the damage that has been done by the credit crunch but appears to be coping better than other sectors.
"All the available statistics suggest there are a significant number of vacancies and they do tend to be for quite specialist skills," she said.
Ms George went on to say that job seekers who are qualified or trained in a specific area have a greater chance of finding IT jobs.
"The sorts of positions that tend to be available are support or system maintenance roles, software design or development and specific IT management jobs," she added.
Research by e-skills UK revealed that salaries of women working in IT jobs are above the national average.
