Friday 30th January 2009 Construction jobs - M6 link road to create construction jobs

Construction jobs will be created to build the new Heysham to M6 link road after the project won approval from Transport Minister Paul Clark.
The road will improve motorway access for people living in Heysham and Morecambe as well as diverting traffic away from Lancaster city centre.
According to the Department for Transport, it has pledged £133 million towards the construction of the new road, while Lancashire county council will foot the remaining £137 million of the bill.
Mr Clark said: "This scheme will significantly improve links for freight traffic between Heysham Port and the M6 and will also mean that all traffic travelling between the M6 and the Morecambe and Heysham peninsula will no longer have to journey through Lancaster city centre."
Furthermore, Mr Clark added that road would enable improved public transport to be introduced, as well as improving road safety in Lancaster.
The dual carriageway will be 4.8 km long and bypass the north of Lancaster before connecting to the existing A683 Heysham to M6 link.
Transport Minister Andrew Adonis last month opened a new section of motorway between Carlisle and Guards Mill.
