Setting up a Watchdog

Setting up a Watchdog

We have come up with a number of tips to help you get the best response when setting up your CV Watchdogs.

Using keywords

When setting up keywords for a Watchdog you must ensure that you are as precise as possible and use a range of words that could match the vacancy that you are trying to fill.

If you are looking for a salesperson you should use a number of keywords that match the position - e.g., sales person, also use sales executive, sales consultant etc.

Use Boolean

To ensure you are receiving accurate results make sure that you use Boolean searching. You can be as specific as you like by making a few simple changes to how you set up your keywords.

By placing “sales executive” in speech marks, you will only receive CVs from candidates with both those words together, rather than all CVs with sales and executive.

If you are looking for a particular skill you can use AND to narrow down your search - e.g., if you want a French speaking sales executive you can set up your keywords as “sales executive” AND French.

Minimum match

We recommend setting the minimum match to either 0 or 25%. If the keyword only appears once in the CV the system wil not pick this up if the match is set to 100%; it will just bring back the results that contain the word in the job title and also the main text of the CV.
