Summary of Position
This position is responsible for managing the delivery of timely, accurate and relevant management reporting of results on a monthly basis for the GMS UK & ROI business. Management reporting requires timely and accurate production of results as well as a first level narrative on variances to both prior period, forecast, budget and prior year.
This new position results from a strategic transformation initiative to create clear accountability and responsibility for the financial control of the operations and the integrity of management reports produced. This will be governed by newly implemented service level agreements detailing expected deliverables and related timelines. Experience in such a fledgling environment would be useful.
In addition this position will support the annual budget and monthly forecast process in conjunction with their decision support colleagues that support our operational colleagues and there is a significant portion of management reporting required for our US parent.
Adhoc projects are a regular feature of this role and require proven influencing skills over other functions within the business over whom this position may not have direct control to ensure there successful completion. Such adhoc projects will assist the Line of Business Controller to improve financial control and integrity across the business areas.
A key attribute for any applicant is the appetite to take a project on and run with it to completion. A keen eye for detail and a willingness to drive through control improvements to business areas are essential.
Accountabilities
1. Provide timely and accurate delivery of the following services to defined customers:
• The financial integrity of monthly financial reporting of business performance across the GMS line of business and related functions is held by this position; some of the financial reporting will be undertaken directly by this position
• First level variance analysis of revenue, margins and operating expenses by reference to prior period, forecast, budget and prior year.
• Preparation and submission of month end journals to produce the financial results.
• Supporting the Line of Business Controller on adhoc projects as required
• Liasion with external outsourcing partner to implement improvements to standard practices.
2. Develop and implement progressive process improvements to deliver efficient and quality service in production of financial reporting and related variance analysis.
3. Build an effective, responsive relationship between Finance control and our operational colleagues.
4. Identify, understand and communicate the key or unique business drivers for the GMS business area
5. Highlighting key areas for attention using business metrics. Driving through cost savings.
Business Experience/Educational Background
Essential:
• Experience in a similar, challenging, but exciting role
• Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
• Solid SAP experience.
• Experience of working in a Shared Service environment
• Ability to communicate with all levels across organisation
• Strong Background of Financial controls
Desirable:
• Statutory accounts experience
• The ability to speak French is a distinct advantage, although not essential
